JML No. 253 comes from an exceptionally rare piece of quilted spalted maple, marked by several distinct bands of angel-step quilt. The spalting left the wood nearly too soft to use, so it was carefully stabilized with epoxy, sanded back to exposed wood, and finished with a food-safe oil that brings the layered quilt to life.
